PROTEINSECT

http://www.proteinsect.eu/

The project focused on five key areas in order to evaluate insects as a novel source of protein:

-Determination of safety and quality criteria

-Evaluation of processing methodologies and the evaluation of crude and refined insect protein extracts in fish, chicken and pig feeding trials.

-The determination of the optimal design of insect-based animal feed production systems utilising the results of a comprehensive life cycle analysis.

-To build a pro-insect platform in Europe to encourage adoption of sustainable production technologies to include examination of the regulatory framework.

EUROLEGUME

http://www.eurolegume.eu/

The research within the framework of EUROLEGUME will be directed to improvements in yield parameters, biotic and abiotic stress resistance, nitrogen fixation (in plants and in soil), and nutritional value in sustainable legume (faba beans, peas, cowpea) cultivation systems in Europe by introducing new genotypes from different geographical regions and by exploiting/introducing available genetic resources in active cropping systems, using both molecular technologies and evaluating the influence of legumes on the selected crops in rotation and as intercrops in situ.

Overall objective of the project is to improve the sustainable production of leguminous crops and their multipurpose use in a changing climate, ensuring new varieties and new food and feed products, broadening the production area and thus turning EU more competitive and sustainable.

PROTEIN2FOOD

PROTEIN2FOOD will address these challenges by developing high-quality food protein from multi-purpose seed crops and grain legumes, through optimised, sustainable production and processing methods.
